Rescue teams are currently searching for the missing people who were at an altitude of around 9,200ft when the incident happened.
Four people are missing after being buried in an avalanche near Bovernier in the Swiss Alps.
The group were hit by the morning avalanche at an altitude of 2,800m (9,200ft) near the borders with France and Italy.
Rescue teams were sent to the scene to look for the missing people.
It came hours after one person was killed and a second seriously injured when they got caught in an avalanche in Austria.
The pair were part of a group who were in the Rax mountain range, near the town of Reichenau, when the avalanche hit on Saturday.
Officials said no other people have been reported missing but they searched the area as a precaution.
